In the late 80′s VW had this a stop-start system “FORMEL E” (Formula E). It was offered on such cars as the Golf (mark 1), Polo, Derby (Polo with boot / trunk). Exactly the same VW accessory. Also, BMW providing its car with this technology

Interesting article and its great news that even the big cars are becoming fuel efficient. While the saving costs doesn’t sound like much it all adds up over a few years.

I have also heard that insurance companies offer discounts for more fuel efficient cars so that is another reason to go green.
