In these worrying times when we’re all trying to stop the sky from falling on our heads, so are there any cars out there which are enjoyable to drive and help in the fight against global warming?

The BMW 116d could be such a car. BMW is making all of its cars more fuel efficient without compromising performance or having “eco-mobile” proclaimed all over the car. But it’s not just the 1 series that is special. Modifications have been applied throughout the range to make them all more fuel efficient, right up to the M3.

The Vauxhall Insignia 2.0 CDTi is the European car of the year 2009. Its extremely good looking and is a great improvement on the Vectra. The distinguished quality continues on the inside too, with 3 trim levels with a good selection of toys.

Fiat eco:Drive has just won the 2009 Fleet Environmental Award. It is a free tool which plugs into the dashboard and records how economically the driver is driving and when the data is uploaded to a computer it analyses it and gives suggestions on how to further increases efficiencies by modifying driving style.

There is an ever widening choice of ways to be more eco friendly in the automotive world and manufacturers are continuing to devise technology to make their products more environmentally friendly both in the way they are manufactured and their emissions once they are out on the wide open road.

  1. The hydrogen car was invented long time ago but the government won’t allow them because the petrol is a very good money deal.
