London Marathon Endurance Challenge

For most people, just running the London Marathon would be challenge enough, but not for Mike Buss, an ex Army soldier. He is also an Ultra Runner and Multiple World Record Holder.
Mike’s marathon running will commence on 18th April, when he will run overnight from Swindon to Brighton. He will then take part in the Brighton Marathon, then run the remaining 57 miles to London, arriving there on the 19th. After a well deserved few days off, he will then take part in the London Marathon, then continue on with the final 82 miles back home to Swindon.
This is just the latest endurance challenge Like has taken on to raise money for Help For Heroes, and aims to raise £1,000,000 by 2014. He has been nominated for The Pride of Swindon Awards and Wiltshire Life Magazine’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
He is following up his London Marathon challenge by running 100 marathons in 100 days in around 15 towns in the UK, starting at Swindon on June 16th and finishing in Birmingham on September 23rd.
Mike is very honest about why he takes on these challenges, saying ‘I was medically discharged from the Army after being injured by a car bomb in Northern Ireland. I was gutted to leave and found it such a struggle that I ended up homeless on the streets of London. I know many other soldiers struggle just like this when they reach Civvy Street and then there are the soldiers coming back from Afghanistan with missing limbs. I do it for them! I can’t stand in line shoulder to shoulder anymore but I can still do my bit for Queen and Country, supporting those brave men and women on operations in Afghanistan.’
Mike adds ‘I also do this to show in an extreme way that anything is possible and that if you have a belief in yourself that you can achieve anything in life! I am a passionate believer that if you believe you will achieve, whether it’s a 5 km fun run or a 500mile race it doesn’t matter, I really believe anyone can run 500miles. I’m not the only one that has done this all you need is inspiration and motivation.’
